Yag'ubi is a multicultural festival that seeks to celebrate and promote the spirit of multiculturalism through the sharing of music, art, food and ideas.
How Yag'ubi has Evolved
Nine years ago a spontaneous event occurred when people of many cultures united for a day to express their feelings about divisions in our society and to make a stand for unity and multiculturalism; reconciliation and unity were given a new meaning in the community. A sense of bonding occurred - this was the embryo that became "Yag'ubi" - "Come Along".
An incorporated association was formed in 1998 drawn from a diverse cross section of citizens and the annual event has evolved over the years into its current form, a 3 day festival. The scope has broadened to include a multitude of visual arts and crafts, music and dance.
Today Yag'ubi provides a special opportunity in the region to experience, share and enjoy everything our nation represents. It has become well known on the national festival circuit for its manageable size and friendly atmosphere. The Kids Festival; the international music and food; the workshops in theatre, art and craft; the public speaking and environmental and conservation issues all play there part in creating this atmosphere. However, it is the overall quality of both the Australian and overseas performers displaying their skills and the resulting opportunity for people to participate and enjoy the experience that is the highlight - Yag'ubi embraces and enhances enjoyment.
